SAVE GIRL CHILD – the future progenitor of human world

January 24 is being celebrated as the ‘ National Girl Child Day ‘ in our country. But when we looked upon the sex –ratio in India it provide us a horrifying scenario – 927 girls to 1000 men , a much shameful proportions despite various measures taken up by the government and different NGOs working against gender discriminations. The skewed mindset of Indian population – wanting a male child , and fearing the birth of a female child is a major hindrance in this regard. The most disturbing fact being the practice of female foeticide as even today , the girl child is aborted and thrown wrapped in black polythene bags in gutters . Not only this , little girls are abandoned or murdered after birth , left at the hospitals they were delivered in , on railway platforms and orphanages .Girl child are victim of child trafficking , child labour , child marriage and are even force to prostitution at a very early age , deprieving them of their freedom n childhood . In today’s world , where a woman , Mrs.Pratibha Patil , is our president and when everyone is talking about women empowerment , even educated women in desire to have a male child resorts to female child abortion. Girls are being treated as a mere objects of pity , sympathy and someone with no values of thier own . Here in India , Goddesses are being worshipped and people seek their blessings in everyday life , yet on the other hand girls are considered to be a burden and in many customs , girls child are used to be sacrificed to appease Gods and Goddesses. I being a girl myself truely feels that the time has come to ring a warning bell against the injustice and discrimination girls in the society are facing and take up the great initiative to save the girl child- to provide a promising future to her . The time to wake up to reality and reach out from our busy life to the yet un-enlightened and un-informed , biased members of our society to make that change where every girl child has the right to live a life with dignity , grace , get equal opportunities as every other person and enjoy her life to the fullest and nothing should impede such endeavours . Let us all join hands and give a true tribute to the girl child where every girl child is to celebrate eachday of her life as the “ Day of the Girl Child “

Pung Cholom

It gets its inspiration from nature and seasons. It consists of animal movements like that of a peacock, tiger, elephant, snake, etc. The rhythmic chants consists of chants which are inspired from thunder storms and rain sounds. Also, the vocal sound used here are high pitched, which is very characteristic to Manipuri dance. The costume used here are very divine and gorgeous. It presents dancers playing percussion instruments and metallic instruments while dancing simultaneously. This is again very charactiristic of Manipuri dance and probably has some links with the Japanese percussion- Taiko Drumming.

Manipuri Dance

It is a dance tradition that recreates the life and deeds of Shri Krishna and Shri Radha. The Radha-Krishna legend represents a symbol of male(Tandava) and female(Lasya) forces in nature.Their union and creation are important for life on earth to continue. The dancers in the raas lila wear elaborate costumes. It is a story of the eternal love between Krishna and Radha. Several singers and drummers play in the raas.It is a dramatic, expressive and modern form of Manipuri dance.
